Summary

•    Actively participate in the daily operations of the General Accounting section of the Finance Department.
•    Perform basic accounting tasks and prepare reports and summaries requiring analysis, judgment, and understanding of financial data.
•    Ensure compliance with established standards in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.

 

Duties and Responsibility

Cash Management and Short-Term Investments
•    Prepare the daily cash report to support management decisions;
•    Determine daily cash requirements and invest surplus funds (overnight deposits);
•    Record daily miscellaneous receipts in the general ledger;
•    Process and record foreign currency transactions and advances from an affiliated company;
•    Prepare and send the weekly cash report to headquarters;
•    Review accounts payable checks and electronic file transfers; prepare checks for mailing.
Accounts Receivable
•    Print and distribute customer invoices daily;
•    Verify the accuracy of federal and provincial sales tax rates on invoices;
•    Check the accuracy of the daily PO box report;
•    Apply payments to customer accounts;
•    Identify short or excess payments and follow up with the credit manager and sales manager to resolve discrepancies;
•    Prepare the monthly accounts receivable closing;
•    Prepare and analyze end-of-month accounts receivable reports; reconcile the AR sub-ledger to the general ledger control account;
•    Prepare the monthly accounts receivable report required by the bank.

 

Other responsibilities

Fixed Assets (Backup Role)
•    Manage the end-of-period monthly close, including preparing journal entries and reconciling the fixed asset register to the general ledger control account;
•    Perform quarterly capitalization of assets; ensure payments are properly allocated to the correct assets;
•    Record asset disposals;
•    Verify the accuracy and completeness of credit requests prepared by plant staff;
•    Update and maintain the Project Accounting and Fixed Assets modules.
Other Responsibilities
•    Prepare monthly journal entries;
•    Reconcile general ledger accounts and review discrepancies and outstanding balances;
•    Prepare monthly bank reconciliations;
•    Prepare and file monthly GST/HST and QST returns (including calculation of input tax credits for employee expenses and meal allowances); prepare the distribution of refund checks;
•    Prepare miscellaneous invoices and credit notes for third parties;
•    Prepare monthly shipping reports for finished goods;
•    Prepare the KC-166 quarterly inventory report;
•    Verify intercompany accounts;
•    Manage and monitor lease credits;
•    Ensure quarterly updates of transfer pricing in the system are correctly applied;
•    Assist with government, internal, and external audit requests;
•    Prepare the annual consignment warehouse reconciliation;
•    As directed, prepare special reports for management in all areas of finance and control;
•    Implement and support improvements to systems and procedures as needed;
•    Perform any other tasks and assignments as delegated by the Accounting Director;
•    Conduct database analyses.

 

Education, experience and competencies

  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in Accounting (an asset);
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment (an asset);
  • Proficiency in both French and English, spoken and written;
  • Motivation and excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Team player;
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and thoroughness;
  • High level of responsibility, autonomy, and integrity;
  • Familiarity with computer environments, especially Excel and SAP software (mandatory).
