Summary

As a member of the human resources team and reporting to the Human Resources Supervisor, the nurse specializing in health, welfare and disability management is responsible for maintaining, protecting and promoting the health of the plant's employees. He/she manages workers' compensation and disability files, administers care and treatment of injuries and deals with various problems related to the health of employees. In addition, while working closely with the health and safety department, he/she promotes the health of the plant's employees through various prevention campaigns and ensures the application of the various corporate medical protocols, for a group of 350 employees, including 260 unionized employees.

Duties and Responsibility

Disability Management
Participate in the establishment and achievement of the orientations, objectives and programs of the human resources department with regard to his/her field of expertise and according to the main orientations of the plant;
• Acts as a specialist and resource person on health, well-being and disability;
• Provide an advisory role in the management of disability files, including pre-employment medical examinations of candidates, the reintegration of employees in a situation of gradual return to work or temporary assignment and in the support of managers;
• Ensure the keeping, monitoring, processing and retention of medical records in a manner that respects confidentiality and the protection of personal information;
• Prepare expert mandates and participate in the preparation of litigious cases that may be appealed to the courts;

First aid
• Administer first aid following work-related or non-work-related injuries or illnesses, and intervene, as necessary, in the plant during the interventions of the emergency brigade for first aid and when the emergency plan is activated.
• Welcoming employees in difficulty for health, occupational or other problems and directing them to specialized resources or providing psychological support to those who express a need;
• Perform and explain the various medical tests (audiogram, vision tests, spirometry, etc.);
Prevention
• Optimize the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and ensure a monitoring and follow-up role;
• Actively participate in the prevention of workplace accidents and occupational diseases and the promotion of healthy lifestyles;
• Actively participate in the training of employees in areas related to health and safety and lead safety meetings as needed (noise, chemicals, musculoskeletal disorders, etc.);
• Plan and organize vaccination campaigns for influenza, molded caps, etc.
• Responsible for fit testing for the respiratory protection program.
 

Education and Experience

• Hold a college diploma in nursing or a bachelor's degree in nursing;
• A minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of relevant experience as a nurse in a factory, industrial or manufacturing environment;
• Have experience in a unionized environment;
• Have an excellent knowledge of all laws, rules and regulations that relate to disability management;
• Excellent writing and communication skills (oral and written) in both (2) official languages (U.S. headquarters);
• Excellent computer skills required (Outlook, Excel, Word, OneNote);
• Have initiative and good judgment;
• Have a good ability to handle several files at once and know how to manage priorities;
• Be rigorous and pay attention to detail;
• Hold an up-to-date certification in CPR-AED (Cardiorespi Resuscitation)
