Duties and Responsibility

 

The Process Automation & Control Specialist reports directly to the Supervisor, Automation & Control within the Production - Strategic Development department of the Varennes plant at Kronos Canada, Inc.

 

His main role is to supervise, maintain and optimize the plant's automated systems. He plans, configures and manages automation projects, while supervising a team of two technicians. As a technical expert, he also helps improve process performance, provides technical support and ensures that systems meet reliability, safety and efficiency standards.

 

  • Monitor the plant's Honeywell automated system;
  • Evaluate the reliability and efficiency of controls;
  • Identify and propose improvements or optimizations;
  • Perform detailed engineering for automation projects;
  • Analyze functionalities of new systems;
  • Develop control strategies for process logic and programs;
  • Participate in project commissioning and ensure transfer to production;
  • Supervise two technicians responsible for system programming and configuration;
  • Maintain the control system (updates, security, antivirus);
  • Identify and resolve control system problems;
  • Provide technical support to staff and instrumentation department;
  • Optimize use of available technologies (advanced control, interface, alarm management);
  • Define processes and configuration standards with production;
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation and manage system modifications;
  • Manage improvement projects in line with deadlines and criteria;
  • Respect health and safety rules;
  • Propose solutions to system problems;
  • Develop strategies to optimize processes.
     

Education and Experience

 

Skills and qualifications required:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in automated production or related discipline;
  • Minimum of 3 years in a similar role, including hands-on experience with distributed control systems (DCS);
  • Bilingualism (French and English);
  • Member of the Order of Engineers (mandatory);
  • Good command of Windows operating systems;
  • Knowledge of Honeywell systems (TDC3000, Experion) - an asset;
  • Familiarity with VMware (virtualization) and programming languages such as VB Script - an asset;
  • Occasional availability outside regular hours.
